East Asian Youth: Identities and Practices in Public Spaces
East Asian societies have, over the past few decades, undergone dramatic demographic, economic, political and technological transitions. Particularly impacted by these transformations is the younger generation, whose experiences differ greatly from those of earlier generations. Continually exposed to both traditional and modern values and practices, East Asian “Millennials” or members of “Generation Y” (cohorts born between the 1980s and the early 2000s) have proven particularly active in appropriating old and creating new practices when seeking to shape their identities.

Le GRAL a pour ambition de contribuer activement aux études de rhétorique et d’argumentation dans un esprit dynamique et interdisciplinaire. L'Italie ancienne est une aire où des langues génétiquement très différentes voisinent, en partageant une organisation sociale du même type. Les catégories linguistiques attestées dans l'onomastique sont largement partagées : toutes ces sociétés sont organisées sur la base de lignages patrilinéaires, les gentes, et soulignent dans les anthroponymes à la fois l'individualité (prénom) et l'appartenance au lignage (nom gentilice). Ces généralités recouvrent plusieurs problèmes qu'il s'agit d'élucider.

Simply sharing scientific knowledge with politicians will not automatically inform their decisions. The project aims to create connections between different profiles in environmental policymaking processes. Our multidisciplinary team analyses what are the barriers and facilitators for (science) communication in environmental policy-making and will test how producing collective narratives can contribute to imagine decisions to make and actions to take.

As climate change communication based on expository messages, statistical data and arguments have largely failed to elicit significant individual and collective changes, the call for a revival of narrative is now a consensus that is being heeded in mass media outlets. 

Narratives are pivotal to bring about profound societal changes, not because stories raise awareness on certain issues but because they inspire imaginaries of action. Which stories should we tell about climate change to fuel climate action? Addressing this issue requires developing a comprehensive, bottom-up approach to how climate action is driven by narratives.

Remote ethnography of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region
This project aims at gaining and presenting a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of contemporary developments in this Inner Asian region under Chinese control which the Chinese government call Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region but which many Uyghurs in the diaspora prefer to call East Turkistan or the Uyghur homelands (veten). Therefore this project seeks to develop and use methods of Remote Ethnography to explore the current situation and the developments of the past turbulent decade in the region through various sources available without on-the-ground research in the region itself.

This project looks at the Uyghur diaspora and its cultural and artistic production that draws the world’s attention and bears witness to the various abuses perpetrated at home by the Chinese government. It also aims to understand new expressions of nostalgia in Uyghur cultural production and the relationships between individual trauma and collective struggle, as well as the emerging role of Uyghur art in community building.
