Objet de la recherche

When the scientific disciplines of science communication, journalism and narratology come together, they invite us to explore how to connect activists, scientists and policymakers through the narratives they can produce together.

Simply sharing scientific knowledge with politicians will not automatically inform their decisions. The project aims to create connections between different profiles in environmental policymaking processes. Our multidisciplinary team analyses what are the barriers and facilitators for (science) communication in environmental policy-making and will test how producing collective narratives can contribute to imagine decisions to make and actions to take.

The methodological approach consists of two steps:

1) Mapping existing communication practices in environmental policymaking through interviews with stakeholders involved in specific cases: how they exchange knowledge (scientific, experiential, professional) in the policy arena and the public sphere to shape collective decisions.

2) Inviting a variety of environmental stakeholders (policymakers, activists, public servants, scientists, communication professionals, journalists…) to become involved in creative writing workshops. A questionnaire before and after the workshops will evaluate the expectations and lived experiences of participants. In follow-up interviews after six months, we will assess how the stories they have co-constructed have reshaped a) their communication practices and decision-making agency, and b) their attitudes towards cooperation.
